Regenerator is a Californian electronic project formed in 1992, consisting primarily of the duo W. G. Reed and Patrice Reed. Emerging during the second wave of North American industrial music, they quickly established a reputation for a sophisticated 'dark pop' sound that bridged the gap between the harshness of Front 242 and the melodic accessibility of synth-pop. Their early career was marked by high-profile associations, including remixes by Daniel Bressanutti (Front 242) and KMFDM, which cemented their status within the EBM and industrial scenes.

Their sound identity is characterized by 'synaptic soundscapes' - intricate, layered electronic textures that emphasize atmosphere as much as rhythm. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, they evolved from the brooding, experimental electronics of '2.0' to the more club-oriented and polished 'War' (2001). The latter is particularly noted for its eerie timing, having been completed just hours before the 9/11 attacks, lending its themes of global conflict a haunting prescience. Critically, Regenerator is respected for their longevity and their refusal to lean into the 'aggrotech' clichés of the 2000s, instead maintaining a focus on melodic vocals and high-fidelity production.
