Remarc (Marc Forrester) is a foundational figure in the UK jungle scene, specifically synonymous with the 'ragga jungle' subgenre and the art of the complex breakbeat edit. Emerging in the early 1990s on labels like Whitehouse and Suburban Base, he distinguished himself through an almost obsessive level of detail in drum programming.

While contemporaries were moving toward the more streamlined 'intelligent' drum and bass, Remarc pushed the sampler to its limits, creating the 'chopped' aesthetic that would later influence breakcore and IDM. His work is characterized by the heavy use of the Amen break, pitched-up vocal samples from dancehall records, and deep, rolling sub-bass. His cultural position is that of a 'producer's producer'; though he lacked the crossover commercial success of Goldie or LTJ Bukem, his technical innovations in tracks like 'Ricky' and 'Sound Murderer' set the blueprint for rhythmic complexity in electronic music. The 2003 Planet Mu retrospective 'Sound Murderer' solidified his legacy for a new generation of listeners, cementing his status as a pioneer of high-velocity, sample-heavy street soul.
