Ribspreader

Ribspreader is a cornerstone project of the prolific Swedish musician Roger 'Rogga' Johansson, formed in 2002 as a vehicle for pure, old-school death metal (OSDM). The band's sound is deeply rooted in the Stockholm tradition, utilizing the iconic Boss HM-2 pedal distortion to achieve a gritty, chainsaw-like guitar texture.

Their debut, 'Bolted to the Cross,' is particularly significant for featuring the legendary Dan Swanö, whose production and performance helped solidify Ribspreader's status within the international metal underground. Throughout their career, the band has maintained a consistent thematic focus on gore, anti-Christianity, and death, adhering to the genre's classic tropes. Despite several line-up changes and a brief hiatus in the mid-2000s, Johansson has kept the project active, frequently collaborating with members of his other prominent band, Paganizer. Critically, Ribspreader is respected for its refusal to modernize or dilute its sound, serving as a reliable bastion for fans of the 1990s Swedish sound. Their influence is felt most strongly among OSDM revivalists who prioritize groove and atmosphere over technical showmanship.
