Riot V

Riot V represents the fifth chapter (hence the 'V') of the legendary New York metal institution Riot, originally founded by Mark Reale in 1975. Following Reale's passing in 2012, the surviving members - including long-time bassist Don Van Stavern and guitarist Mike Flyntz - rebranded to honor the founder's legacy while continuing his specific vision of high-speed, melodic heavy metal.

Their sound is a pivotal bridge between the 70s hard rock of their origins and the hyper-speed power metal they pioneered with the 1988 landmark 'Thundersteel'. Critically, they are revered for maintaining a high standard of technical proficiency and songwriting consistency across decades of lineup changes. They occupy a unique space in the 'US Power Metal' (USPM) scene, characterized by a focus on 'shred' guitar techniques, soaring tenor vocals, and a rhythmic drive that borders on speed metal. Their mascot, Johnny the Seal, remains one of the most idiosyncratic visual icons in the genre.
