Intro

RL Grime, the primary alias of Henry Steinway, is widely credited with bridging the gap between Southern trap music and mainstream electronic dance music. Emerging from the Los Angeles WeDidIt collective alongside artists like Shlohmo, Steinway initially produced house music as Clockwork before pivoting to the RL Grime project.

His 2012 remix of Kanye West's Mercy became a foundational text for the EDM trap movement, establishing a blueprint of heavy 808s and aggressive synth leads. Over three studio albums, VOID, NOVA, and PLAY, he has evolved from a club-focused producer into a cinematic architect of sound. In 2019, he founded Sable Valley, a label that has become the premier hub for the next generation of bass music producers, effectively cementing his role as the genre's primary tastemaker. His critical standing is bolstered by his technical proficiency and his ability to maintain an 'underground' credibility while headlining the world's largest festivals. He remains a central figure in the evolution of American bass music, consistently pushing the boundaries of sound design and live performance.
