A violent collision of jagged mathcore and shimmering dream-pop. Technical, chaotic, and unexpectedly beautiful music for those who want to feel everything at once.
Rolo Tomassi sounds like a high-speed collision between a hardcore punk band and a celestial orchestra. One moment you are submerged in a wash of shimmering, Cocteau Twins-esque synthesizers and soprano vocals, and the next you are being pummeled by jagged, odd-time signatures and blood-curdling screams. It is a sound that feels both meticulously engineered and dangerously close to falling apart.
What truly sets them apart is the 'bi-polar' vocal delivery of Eva Spence and the band's refusal to settle into a single groove. They utilize the technical complexity of mathcore - think 13/8 time signatures and polyrhythmic drumming - but wrap it in a 'polished chrome' production that feels futuristic rather than retro. The inclusion of 8-bit synth textures and jazz-influenced breakdowns adds a layer of unpredictability that most heavy bands lack.
For the uninitiated, 'Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It' is the essential starting point. It perfectly captures their evolution from chaotic noisecore into a sophisticated, cinematic force that balances extreme aggression with genuine melodic beauty. It is music that demands your full attention and rewards it with massive emotional payoffs.
