Roman Candle

Roman Candle is an American indie rock and Americana band originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1997. The core of the group consists of siblings Skip, Logan, and Timshel Matheny.

Their sound identity is characterized by a sophisticated blend of 1970s-influenced roots rock, power-pop, and contemporary indie folk. Critics often highlight their 'soulful' approach, which distinguishes them from the more cynical or lo-fi trends of the early 2000s indie scene. After a decade in the fertile Chapel Hill music community, the band relocated to Nashville in 2008, a move reflected in the increasingly polished and expansive arrangements of their later work.
