High-gloss Euro-house that reimagines 60s and 80s classics for the dancefloor. Pumping beats, nostalgic hooks, and pure club energy.
Royal Gigolos specialize in a very specific kind of musical alchemy: taking the DNA of classic pop and rock hits and injecting them with a massive dose of 2000s house energy. The sound is defined by bright, polished synths, heavy side-chain compression that gives the tracks a 'pumping' feel, and vocal hooks that are often chopped and rearranged to fit a club-ready rhythm. It is unapologetically fun, designed to bridge the gap between radio-friendly melodies and the late-night intensity of a European dancefloor.
What makes them distinctive is their curation of samples. While many house producers look to disco or funk, Royal Gigolos frequently reached back to the 1960s, turning folk-rock staples like 'California Dreamin' or 'No Milk Today' into high-octane anthems. This juxtaposition of vintage, often melancholic songwriting with aggressive, modern electronic production creates a unique tension that feels both familiar and brand new.
Start with their 2004 debut 'California Dreamin' to hear the blueprint of their sound. It perfectly captures the era's obsession with the 'Global Deejays' style of tech-house covers. From there, move to 'Tell It To My Heart' for a more 80s-influenced take on their high-energy formula.
Royal Gigolos were a German tech house group, formed in late 2003 by DJ/producers Michael Schmidt (Mike Moore) and Michael Nehrig (Kosmonova) with vocalists Melanie Stahlkopf and Kristian Romeo, and later in 2008 with Layla and Thorsten Kaiser (DJ Thoka). The group sampled and covered songs from the 1960s and 1980s, several of which were successful across Europe. The group dissolved in 2008.
