Intro

This is the sound of high-octane roots rock that feels like it was born in a humid, smoke-filled rehearsal space. It carries a distinct 1970s grit, characterized by thick basslines, driving percussion, and electric guitars that alternate between soulful blues licks and aggressive power chords. The production is refreshingly unadorned, capturing the kinetic energy of a band that spent years honing their craft on the road.

What sets this music apart is the lineage of its members, specifically Tom Fogerty's transition from the massive success of Creedence Clearwater Revival into a more collaborative, democratic band setting. You can hear the 'swamp rock' DNA, but it is pushed into a harder, more frantic space that flirts with early heavy metal and pub rock. The interplay between the Oda brothers and Fogerty creates a rhythmic pocket that feels both loose and indestructible.

Start with 'Rock & Roll Madness' to hear the band at their most cohesive and intense. It is an essential listen for anyone who loves the intersection of 70s Americana and hard-driving garage rock, offering a more muscular alternative to the polished radio hits of the era.

Ruby was an American rock band that between 1976 and 1978 recorded two albums, Ruby and Rock & Roll Madness. In 1984, the compilation Precious Gems (which was credited to Tom Fogerty + Ruby) was released. In 1988, Randy Oda and Tom Fogerty made another album, Sidekicks, with Kevin Oda on drums, and Tom's son Jeff on bass; the album was not released until five years later, by which point Fogerty had died.
