Rusty K

Rusty K (Rustan Mansurov) is a pivotal figure in the mid-2010s wave of Russian neurofunk, a subgenre of drum and bass characterized by its technical complexity and dark, aggressive soundscapes. Operating primarily out of Ryazan, Mansurov developed a signature style that blended the grit of industrial music with the high-fidelity production standards of modern EDM.

His work is defined by the use of 'Reese' basslines, intricate drum programming, and a maximalist approach to layering that leaves little room for silence. Between 2012 and 2015, he released a series of influential singles and EPs on labels like Close 2 Death and Lifted Music, establishing a reputation for 'heavy' D&B that appealed to both the dancefloor and the gym-motivation niche. In 2016, he effectively retired the Rusty K moniker to co-found Magnetude with James Peacock, a move that saw his sound evolve toward an even more cinematic and orchestral-influenced style. Critically, he is viewed as a master of the 'technical' side of the genre, often cited alongside peers like Gydra and Teddy Killerz as part of the dominant Russian contingent that redefined the global neurofunk sound through sheer sonic power.
