SADS

Gritty, neon-soaked rock that pairs sleazy glam swagger with a deep, melancholic ache. Perfect for late nights in the city when you're feeling both cool and lonely.

Intro

SADS sounds like the intersection of a rain-slicked Tokyo alleyway and a high-gloss fashion shoot. It is music that wears its leather jacket like armor, blending the aggressive, jagged edges of post-punk with the theatrical, melodic sensibilities of glam rock. The guitars alternate between heavy, distorted riffs and shimmering, atmospheric textures that create a sense of constant urban movement.

What truly defines the SADS experience is Kiyoharu's singular vocal performance. He possesses a voice that sounds perpetually lived-in, moving from a breathy, intimate whisper to a raspy, vibrato-heavy wail that feels both vulnerable and dangerous. This vocal flexibility allows the band to pivot from high-energy punk anthems to sweeping, existential ballads without losing their core identity of sophisticated rebellion.

Start with the album 'BABYLON' to hear the band at their creative and commercial peak. It captures the perfect balance of their early punk energy and the more experimental, atmospheric rock that would define their legacy. It is the definitive soundtrack for anyone who finds beauty in the grit of the city.

Sads (typeset as sads and formerly as SADS) is originally a punk rock, post-punk and glam rock band formed in Japan in 1999. The band made its debut with the single "Tokyo". They released nine singles and five albums before their disbandment in 2003. In 2010, Sads reformed with a more hard rock/heavy metal sound and signed to the Avex label. They then released two albums and one single before entering a hiatus in 2018.
