Heavy, vintage-soaked doom that bridges the gap between 70s occult rock and modern Norwegian metal. Massive riffs met with soaring, clean vocals.
Sahg emerged in 2004 as a 'supergroup' of sorts within the Bergen metal scene, featuring members with deep roots in black metal (Gorgoroth) and hard rock (Audrey Horne). Despite these extreme metal origins, Sahg was conceived as a vehicle for classic doom and stoner metal, heavily influenced by the 1970s proto-metal blueprint.
Over two decades, the band has evolved from a traditional doom act into a more versatile heavy metal entity, frequently incorporating progressive elements and occult themes. Olav Iversen remains the primary creative force, ensuring a consistent focus on high-quality songwriting and clean vocal arrangements. They occupy a unique space in the Norwegian landscape, eschewing the trend toward black-and-roll in favor of a more international, vintage-inspired sound. Critically, they are respected for their technical proficiency and their ability to maintain a 'live' feel in their studio recordings, often utilizing analog-leaning production to preserve the warmth of their tube-driven sound.
