Intro

Sarah Neufeld’s music is a visceral experience of wood, resin, and air. While she is a classically trained violinist, her solo work feels closer to the raw energy of post-rock or the rhythmic complexity of electronic music. The sound is defined by a constant sense of motion; her bow doesn't just glide, it strikes and pulses, creating layers of sound that feel like they are physically expanding in the room. It is music that demands attention, vibrating with a nervous, beautiful energy.

What sets Neufeld apart is her refusal to let the violin stay in its traditional lane. She utilizes the instrument as a percussive tool, often accompanied by her own wordless, ethereal vocalizations that act more like a second instrument than a lyrical guide. The production often highlights the acoustic environment, capturing the sound of the room and the physical effort of the performance, making the listener feel as though they are standing inches away from the strings.

Start with 'Hero Brother' to hear her at her most stark and architectural, recorded in locations with massive natural reverb. If you want something with more driving, rhythmic weight, 'The Ridge' introduces drums and a more expansive, almost cinematic scope. It is the perfect entry point for fans of Arcade Fire or Bell Orchestre looking to see the skeletal frame of those larger sounds.
