Self Esteem

Cinematic art-pop featuring heavy beats and massive choral arrangements. Unfiltered, conversational lyrics that feel like a late-night voice note to a best friend.

Intro

Self Esteem sounds like the interior monologue of someone who has finally stopped trying to be small. It is music built on massive, heavy-footed rhythms and soaring choral arrangements that feel both ecclesiastical and industrial. The sonic palette is unashamedly big, blending the polished sheen of modern pop with the raw, jagged edges of experimental art-rock, creating a space where vulnerability is treated with the scale of an epic film score.

What makes Rebecca Lucy Taylor's work truly distinctive is her lyrical delivery. She frequently shifts from a pure, crystalline singing voice to a dry, conversational spoken-word style that feels startlingly intimate. Her songs are littered with the specific, mundane, and often painful details of modern existence, delivered with a wit and honesty that bypasses typical pop metaphors in favor of direct, colloquial truth-telling.

Start with the album Prioritise Pleasure. It is the definitive statement of her sound, capturing the tension between the desire for joy and the weight of societal expectations. The title track and the sprawling masterpiece I Do This All The Time provide the perfect entry point into her world of rhythmic catharsis and radical self-acceptance.
