Serge Blenner

Serge Blenner is a French-born, Germany-based composer who occupies a unique niche between the Berlin School of electronic music and modern neoclassical synthesis. Having studied composition and harmony at the conservatory of Mulhouse, Blenner brought a level of formal rigor to the electronic scene of the late 1970s that was often absent in his self-taught peers.

His move to Hamburg in 1975 and the subsequent establishment of Studio Esthematique marked the beginning of a prolific career characterized by independence and a rejection of commercial trends. His sound identity is defined by 'digital clarity' and 'orchestral synthesizer voicing,' moving away from the fuzzy analog warmth of early Krautrock toward a sharper, more precise aesthetic. Critically, he is viewed as a 'musician's electronic musician,' respected for his mental composition process where entire works are finalized in his head before recording. His influence is felt most strongly in the 'Space Music' and 'New Age' communities that value structural complexity over mere relaxation. Despite a low public profile in Germany, his global cult following sustains his independent label, MdeC Editions.
