Polished 2000s alternative rock with a deep devotional heart. Bright guitars and soaring choruses built for moments of earnest reflection and spiritual energy.
Seven Places captures the specific, high-energy earnestness of the early 2000s Christian rock scene. Their sound is defined by a polished, radio-ready production style that balances the grit of post-grunge with the melodic accessibility of power pop. It is music that feels expansive and bright, designed to fill large rooms while maintaining a sense of personal, intimate conviction. The guitars are layered and driving, providing a sturdy foundation for vocals that never shy away from their evangelistic purpose.
What sets them apart is the sheer transparency of their mission. While many of their contemporaries sought mainstream crossover by softening their message, Seven Places leaned into their identity as a ministry-driven band. There is a palpable urgency in the songwriting, a sense that every chorus is an invitation. This creates a listening experience that is both nostalgic for the era of big-budget CCM and deeply focused on its spiritual objectives.
Start with 'Lonely for the Last Time' to hear the band at their most energetic and hook-heavy. It perfectly encapsulates the Aaron Sprinkle production era, where indie-rock sensibilities met soaring, faith-forward anthems. It is the ideal entry point for anyone looking to understand the intersection of early-aughts alternative rock and modern worship culture.
Seven Places was a Christian rock band founded in 2000. Seth Gilbert was the main songwriter and vocalist for Seven Places which was signed to BEC Recordings. The group amiably disbanded in 2005 to pursue other projects. The band members were all originally from Medford, Oregon. "Our name is about the seven places Jesus Christ bled from to save us from our sins," vocalist Seth explains. "His hands cover the sinful things we've done with our hands. His feet cover the places of sin we've walked. His back covers all the times we've turned our back on Him, and His side, which is really from His heart, allows our hardened hearts to be softened. It is all about His blood and the fact that we're being covered by it at all points." Seth Gilbert currently works in the Music Ministry of Applegate Christian Fellowship in southern Oregon. Tony Pallotta became a music pastor at Mountain Christian Fellowship. Tyler Jones is married and lives in Portland, Oregon. Dave Luetkenhoelter and Jeffrey Gilbert joined Kutless, filling in the positions of bassist and drummer, respectively. Seven Places disbanded shortly after the release of "Hear Us Say Jesus" in 2004, but a new 11-track album entitled "Glowing" was released on June 26, 2007, by BEC Recordings.
