Shades

Shades is the collaborative powerhouse of Alix Perez and Eprom, two titans of the electronic underground who redefined the 'halftime' sound. Emerging in the mid-2010s, the project fused Perez's soulful, liquid drum and bass sensibilities with Eprom's aggressive, glitch-heavy West Coast bass approach.

The result is a signature aesthetic characterized by 80 BPM grooves, extreme sub-bass manipulation, and a 'noir' atmosphere that draws heavily from industrial and horror film scores. Their work is often cited as a bridge between the UK bass scene and the experimental beat culture of the US. Critically, they are lauded for their uncompromising sound design, often utilizing analog modular systems to create textures that digital software struggles to replicate. They occupy a central role in the '1985 Music' and 'Deadbeats' orbits, influencing a new generation of producers to prioritize space, tension, and physical weight over traditional melodic structures. Their live sets are legendary for their intensity, often performed in near-total darkness to emphasize the auditory experience.
