Shinedown emerged from Jacksonville, Florida, in 2001, led by Brent Smith after the collapse of his previous project, Dreve. While their debut, Leave a Whisper, leaned into the prevailing post-grunge and nu-metal trends of the early 2000s, the band quickly evolved into a premier arena rock act.
