Gritty outlaw country colliding with heavy glam and synth textures. It is the sound of a Nashville legacy being dismantled and rebuilt in a Los Angeles dive bar.
Shooter Jennings sounds like a high-speed collision between a vintage tour bus and a wall of Marshall stacks. While his DNA is pure Nashville royalty, his execution is restless and rowdy, trading the clean polish of modern country for the dirt and sweat of 70s rock and roll. You will hear the familiar twang of a pedal steel, but it is often fighting for space against fuzzed-out guitars and thick, analog synthesizers.
What makes him truly distinctive is his refusal to stay in one lane. He might deliver a perfect honky-tonk ballad one moment and a sprawling, dystopian concept piece the next. His voice carries a natural, raspy authority that feels lived-in, bridging the gap between his father's outlaw legacy and his own fascination with industrial, metal, and electronic textures. It is music that feels both deeply rooted in tradition and aggressively bored by it.
Start with 'Put the O Back in Country' to hear the foundation of his southern rock revivalism. From there, jump to 'Black Ribbons' to experience his most experimental, psychedelic side, or 'Countach (For Giorgio)' for a bizarrely brilliant country-tribute to disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder.
