Shuggie Otis is a singular figure in American music, a child prodigy who evolved from a blues guitar virtuoso into a pioneering architect of psychedelic soul and bedroom pop. As the son of R&B legend Johnny Otis, Shuggie was performing professionally by age 12, but his career trajectory took a radical turn with 1974's 'Inspiration Information.'

On this landmark album, Otis spent three years as a multi-instrumentalist and producer, utilizing the Maestro Rhythm King drum machine in ways that predated the aesthetics of trip-hop and modern indie-soul. His sound is characterized by a blend of sophisticated jazz harmonies, blues-inflected guitar leads, and a hazy, analog atmosphere.
