Sleepwalk

Sleepwalk is a seminal Swiss project within the EBM and dark electro scenes, formed in 1992 in Bern. Emerging during the second wave of industrial music, they bridged the gap between the rigid, rhythmic structures of early Electronic Body Music and the more atmospheric, melody-tinged 'dark electro' sound that gained traction in the late 90s.

Their early work, such as 'Immortal Disease' and 'Hypnotize', is characterized by a raw, hardware-centric production style that emphasizes grit and mechanical repetition. Over their career, they have maintained a consistent cultural position as a 'purist' act, favored by the gothic and industrial underground for their refusal to pivot toward more commercial synth-pop sounds. Critically, they are respected for their sound design, specifically their ability to create 'murky' yet driving textures using analog synths and samplers. While they share DNA with peers like Front Line Assembly or Leather Strip, Sleepwalk's sound is often more insular and brooding, focusing on themes of psychological decay and urban isolation. Their influence is most felt in the modern 'industrial techno' revival, where their blend of danceable tempos and harsh, distorted aesthetics has found a new generation of listeners.
