Sleeze Beez

Sleeze Beez represents the international reach of the glam metal and sleaze rock movement of the late 1980s. Formed in the Netherlands in 1987, the band achieved significant US success with their 1989 sophomore effort, Screwed Blued & Tattooed, which benefited from heavy MTV rotation of the single 'Stranger Than Paradise.'

Their sound identity is a hybrid of the 'big beat' stadium rock popularized by Mutt Lange and the raw, blues-based aggression of the Australian hard rock school. The addition of vocalist Andrew Elt was a turning point, providing the band with a versatile front-man capable of both gritty rockers and emotive power ballads. Despite a major label deal with Atlantic Records and high-profile tours with Skid Row, the band's momentum was halted by the shifting cultural landscape of the early 1990s and internal management struggles. Critically, they are often cited as one of the more technically proficient and 'honest' bands of the sleaze era, avoiding some of the more cartoonish tropes of their peers. Their later work, such as Insanity Beach, showed a move toward a heavier, more contemporary sound, though they remain most celebrated as icons of the 1980s hard rock boom.
