Colossal space rock that feels like being pulled into a black hole. Heavy psych riffs, motorik rhythms, and cosmic narratives for a high-intensity sonic journey.
SLIFT sounds like the soundtrack to a lost 1970s sci-fi epic filmed with a modern, high-definition lens. Their music is a massive, swirling vortex of fuzzed-out guitars, relentless motorik drumming, and basslines that feel like tectonic plates shifting. It is heavy, but it possesses a soaring, celestial quality that prevents it from ever feeling grounded or sluggish. Each track feels like a mission into deep space, characterized by long-form structures that build toward explosive, star-shattering crescendos.
What truly sets them apart is their ability to marry the raw, garage-rock energy of Thee Oh Sees with the expansive, mythological world-building of progressive metal. They utilize echo and reverb not just as effects, but as architectural tools to create a sense of infinite scale. The vocals often act as another instrument, cutting through the wall of sound with rhythmic chants or distant, haunting shouts that emphasize the epic nature of their songwriting. It is a maximalist experience that demands total immersion.
Start with the album UMMON. It is the definitive statement of their cosmic-heavy sound, perfectly balancing accessible psych-rock hooks with sprawling, multi-part odysseys. From there, move to ILION for a more progressive and aggressive take on their space-faring aesthetic. It is music for when you want to feel small in the face of the universe, yet empowered by the sheer volume of the experience.
