Sol Gabetta

Luminous, singing cello performances that bridge the gap between baroque precision and romantic soul. Intimate, warm, and deeply human classical music.

Intro

Sol Gabetta’s music feels like a conversation held in a sun-drenched room. There is a tactile, physical warmth to her playing; you can almost feel the friction of the bow against the strings and the resonance of the wooden body of her cello. It is music that prioritizes emotional clarity and a 'singing' quality over mere technical display, though her technique is flawless.

What sets her apart is her versatility across eras. Whether she is digging into the grit of a Vivaldi concerto on a period instrument or exploring the lush, melancholic depths of Elgar or Shostakovich, she maintains a distinctive 'cantabile' style. Her phrasing mimics the human voice, making even the most complex classical structures feel intuitive and deeply personal.

Start with 'Cantabile' to hear her gift for melody, then move to 'Il Progetto Vivaldi' to experience her fiery, rhythmic energy. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who thinks classical music is too cold or distant.

Sol Gabetta (born 18 April 1981) is an Argentine cellist. The daughter of Andrés Gabetta and Irène Timacheff-Gabetta, she has French, Argentinian, and Russian ancestry. Her brother Andrés is a baroque violinist.
