Soma Sonic

Soma Sonic, led by brothers Francois and Dominic Paterson, emerged in 1999 as a significant Canadian contribution to the global downtempo and lounge movement. Their debut album, 'Future', established a sonic identity built on moody, mid-tempo excursions that bridged the gap between the Bristol trip-hop sound and the more polished lounge music of Continental Europe.

The project's evolution took a significant turn in 2003 with the addition of Christelle Pechin, a classically trained Swiss vocalist whose background in harp and piano added a sophisticated, European art-pop layer to the brothers' electronic production. This collaboration resulted in 'Simplicity' (2006), a sprawling 22-track double album that solidified their reputation for high-fidelity, cinematic electronic music. Culturally, Soma Sonic occupies a space frequently utilized by film and television music supervisors, with their tracks appearing in numerous soundtracks and commercials, highlighting the 'visual' quality of their arrangements.
