Surgical breakbeats and cold, cinematic atmospheres. This is the sound of a high-speed chase through a rain-slicked dystopian city at midnight.
Source Direct sounds like the future as imagined from a 1990s basement. It is a world of razor-sharp percussion, where every snare hit feels like a calculated strike and every bassline feels like a physical weight. The music is deeply cinematic, evoking the grit and tension of a neo-noir thriller, but it remains firmly rooted in the physical demands of the dancefloor.
What sets them apart is their obsession with technical precision. While their contemporaries were exploring the soulful side of jungle, Source Direct leaned into a cold, almost hostile aesthetic. Their drum programming is legendary for its complexity, featuring micro-edited breaks that feel both chaotic and perfectly controlled. It is music that demands your full attention, rewarding deep listening with its intricate layers of sound.
Start with 'Exorcise the Demons' to hear their vision at its most fully realized. It is an album that defines the 'darkcore' era of drum and bass, offering a masterclass in how to build tension without ever fully releasing it. It is the perfect soundtrack for late nights and urban exploration.
