Formed in Gothenburg in 2010, Spiders emerged as a key player in the Swedish retro-rock movement alongside peers like Graveyard and Horisont. The band was co-founded by guitarist John Hoyles, formerly of the doom-metal pioneers Witchcraft, which explains the band's deep literacy in 1970s heavy rock.
Fronted by Ann-Sofie Hoyles, the group pivoted away from the occult doom of Hoyles' previous work toward a more energetic, garage-punk influenced sound. Their discography, spanning from 'Flash Point' (2012) to 'Sharp Objects' (2025), shows an evolution from raw proto-metal toward a more melodic, glam-tinged hard rock. Critically, they are praised for their 'no-frills' approach and authentic analog production, avoiding the pitfalls of over-produced modern rock. They occupy a cultural space that bridges the gap between the classic rock revivalism of the 2010s and the enduring Swedish high-energy rock scene established by The Hellacopters.
