Spitfire

Spitfire is a seminal Russian ska-punk band formed in Saint Petersburg in 1993. Originally emerging from the garage rock and rockabilly scene, the band quickly evolved into a high-energy 'mini-orchestra' that defined the ska-core sound in Russia.

Their early work, such as 'Night Hunting', bridged the gap between Western third-wave ska and the gritty reality of the post-Soviet underground. A significant portion of the band's history is intertwined with the legendary Leningrad (band), as several Spitfire members served as the horn section for Sergey Shnurov's project, bringing a high level of professional musicianship to both acts. Critically, Spitfire is respected for their 'no-filler' approach, maintaining a consistent level of intensity across decades. They influenced a generation of Russian alternative acts like Distemper and Elysium by proving that ska could be both technically proficient and commercially viable without losing its punk edge. Their sound is characterized by a mix of Russian and English lyrics, making them one of the few bands from the scene to achieve significant touring success in Western Europe, particularly Germany.
