Structures

Structures (often stylized as STRUC/TURES) emerged from the Toronto metal scene in 2009 as a pivotal force in the second wave of progressive metalcore and djent. Their sound is characterized by complex polyrhythms, heavy use of syncopation, and a chaotic, math-influenced approach to songwriting.

After gaining significant underground traction with their 'All of the Above' EP, they signed to Sumerian Records, a label central to the 'Sumeriancore' sound of the early 2010s. Their debut full-length, 'Divided By', produced by Will Putney, became a touchstone for the genre, blending technicality with a gritty, hardcore-influenced vocal delivery. The band's evolution saw them experimenting with more melodic and structured elements on 'Life Through a Window' before an extended hiatus. Their 2021 return with 'None of the Above' signaled a move toward even more aggressive, industrial-tinged textures, reaffirming their position as innovators who prioritize rhythmic tension over traditional song structures. Critically, they are noted for their high-energy performances and their role in bridging the gap between technical progressive metal and the visceral energy of the hardcore scene.
