Sun Electric

Sun Electric, the Berlin-based duo of Max Loderbauer and Tom Thiel, represents a pivotal bridge between early 90s Frankfurt trance and the more cerebral IDM and ambient techno movements. Formed in 1990 and championed by Thomas Fehlmann, they became a cornerstone of the R&S/Apollo label roster.

Their sound identity is defined by 'elastic' rhythms and highly melodic, shimmering synth work that avoids the aggressive tropes of techno in favor of a fluid, 'silvery' aesthetic. Loderbauer's background in composition and Thiel's engineering expertise resulted in a high-fidelity sound that was influential in the development of 'intelligent' electronic music.
