Warm, harmonized Dutch pop that feels like a shared secret. Intimate piano and acoustic guitar melodies perfect for late afternoons and long drives home.
Suzan & Freek specialize in a specific kind of domestic magic. Their music is built on the foundation of their real-life partnership, resulting in vocal harmonies that feel instinctive and deeply resonant. It is pop music that avoids the aggressive sheen of the club, opting instead for a warm, organic glow that highlights the natural chemistry between Suzan's clear, emotive leads and Freek's supportive, grounding presence.
What sets them apart is their ability to make the Dutch language sound incredibly melodic and soft. While many of their contemporaries lean into hip-hop or electronic influences, this duo maintains a connection to the singer-songwriter tradition, even when their production scales up to arena-sized anthems. There is a palpable sense of sincerity in their delivery that makes even their most polished radio hits feel like personal letters.
Start with 'Als het avond is' to hear the blueprint of their success: a slow-building ballad that captures the bittersweet tension of a relationship in flux. From there, move to the 'Dromen in kleur' album for a more vibrant, rhythmic take on their signature sound. It is the ideal soundtrack for anyone who finds beauty in the everyday and prefers their pop music with a side of genuine heart.
Suzan & Freek are a Dutch musical duo formed in Groenlo, Netherlands. The now husband-and-wife couple of Suzan Stortelder and Freek Rikkerink have released music together beginning in 2014. The duo first went viral when The Chainsmokers shared their cover of "Don't Let Me Down" in 2016. Their first original song, "Als het avond is", was released in 2018 and reached number one on the Dutch Top 40 in 2019, eventually being certified Platinum. Their debut album Gedeeld door ons entered the charts at number two in both the Netherlands and Belgium, and their next two albums both reached number one in the Netherlands. Closely associated with the Achterhoek region, the duo has been credited with aiding the newfound popularity of Dutch-language pop music in the Netherlands and Flanders in the 2020s. On 27 May 2025, the duo announced that Rikkerink was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and suspended all activities. On 13 June, the duo resumed music activities following a positive prognosis for Rikkerink's condition.
