Swami

Swami is the primary vehicle for British-Indian producer Diamond Duggal, also known as DJ Swami. Formed in Birmingham in the late 1990s, the act became a cornerstone of the 'Asian Underground' and 'Nu-Skool Bhangra' movements.

Their sound identity is built on the fusion of traditional Punjabi folk elements, such as the tumbi and dhol, with contemporary Western genres including house, breakbeat, and alternative rock. This cross-pollination reached its commercial and critical peak with the 2004 album 'DesiRock', which won multiple awards and solidified their position as innovators in the global electronic space. Throughout their career, Swami has functioned as a collaborative hub, featuring a rotating cast of vocalists and musicians, which has allowed the project to evolve from a band-oriented rock-fusion sound into a more streamlined, DJ-led electronic act.
