Technasia

Technasia, founded in 1996 by Charles Siegling and Amil Khan, represents a pivotal bridge between the Detroit techno tradition and the global electronic scene. Based between Paris and Hong Kong for much of its history, the project was instrumental in establishing a sophisticated electronic music infrastructure in South East Asia through their Sino and Technasia labels.

Their sound identity is characterized by a fusion of 'machine funk' and high-fidelity production, drawing influence from Yellow Magic Orchestra's synth-pop and the industrial textures of Einstuerzende Neubauten. Following Khan's departure in 2008, Siegling has continued the project as a solo act, shifting the sound toward a more tech-house oriented aesthetic while maintaining the rigorous percussive complexity of the early years. Critically, Technasia is respected for maintaining a high level of musicality within the rigid structures of techno, often incorporating melodic motifs that echo the work of pioneers like Juan Atkins and Model 500. Their legacy is tied to their role as tastemakers and mentors, having helped launch the careers of artists like Joris Voorn and Dosem through their label management and collaborative live performances.
