Telltale

Telltale was a Brooklyn-based quartet active in the late 2000s, consisting of Eric Gilstrap, Laurie Ruroden, Stephan Cherkashin, and Lauren Andino. They occupied a specific intersection of the New York experimental scene, blending the abrasive, dissonant traditions of no-wave with the atmospheric density of shoegaze and post-punk.

Their sound identity is characterized by high-volume feedback, rhythmic chanting, and a 'slow-build' compositional approach that prioritizes texture and tension over traditional pop structures. Critically, they were noted for their ability to create 'ominous droning wastelands' that felt both aggressive and ethereal.
