The Bakerton Group

The Bakerton Group serves as the instrumental alter-ego of the Maryland rock stalwarts Clutch. Comprising the full Clutch lineup (Tim Sult, Jean-Paul Gaster, Dan Maines, and Neil Fallon), the project allows the members to explore musical territories that might be too experimental or jam-oriented for their primary band's vocal-driven format. Their sound identity is rooted in a deep appreciation for 1970s blues-rock and jazz fusion, filtered through the lens of the stoner rock movement they helped define.

Critically, the band is praised for the rhythmic synergy between Gaster and Maines, often cited as one of the tightest rhythm sections in modern rock. The inclusion of Opeth's Per Wiberg on the 'El Rojo' album marked a significant evolution, shifting the sound toward a more Hammond-heavy, psychedelic soul-jazz aesthetic.
