The Blizzards are a seminal fixture of the mid-2000s Irish indie rock scene, hailing from Mullingar. Formed in 2003 by frontman Niall 'Bressie' Breslin, the band quickly rose to prominence with a sound that bridged the gap between the post-punk revival and anthemic pop rock.
Their debut, A Public Display of Affection (2006), achieved platinum status in Ireland, propelled by singles like Trouble and Fantasy. Sonically, the band is characterized by syncopated guitar rhythms, prominent basslines, and Breslin's powerful, often urgent vocal delivery. While early work flirted with ska-pop elements, their evolution saw them embrace a more robust, stadium-ready indie sound. Despite a hiatus starting in 2010, during which Breslin became a major media figure and mental health advocate, the band's 2016 return proved their lasting appeal. They are frequently associated with contemporaries like Delorentos and Republic of Loose, representing a specific era of vibrant, guitar-driven Irish music that dominated festivals like Oxegen.
