High-velocity Australian shed rock that turns mundane working-class gripes into hyper-energetic punk anthems. Raw, funny, and relentlessly loud.
The Chats sound like a frantic, sweat-soaked afternoon in a corrugated iron garage. Their music is built on a foundation of skeletal, overdriven guitar riffs and a rhythm section that sounds like it's trying to outrun a police siren. It is unapologetically Australian, delivered with a thick, nasal snarl that finds the profound in the pathetic, celebrating the gritty reality of suburban life without a hint of pretension.
What truly sets them apart is their 'shed rock' ethos: a commitment to simplicity that borders on the confrontational. While other punk bands might lean into political grandstanding or complex hardcore structures, The Chats focus on the hyper-specific details of the everyday. They possess a rare ability to turn a viral moment into a sustainable aesthetic, using dry humor and a deadpan delivery to critique modern inconveniences and social dynamics.
Start with 'High Risk Behaviour' to hear the band at their most cohesive and infectious. It captures the transition from viral outliers to masters of the short, sharp, two-minute blast. From there, dive into 'GET FUCKED' for a slightly more aggressive, polished take on their signature chaos.
