Intro

The Devil Dogs were a cornerstone of the late 80s and early 90s New York garage punk scene. Formed from the ashes of the Rat Bastards in 1989, the trio consisting of Andy Gortler, Steve Baise, and Paul Corio (later Joe Vincent) specialized in a high-velocity blend of 60s garage rock, 70s punk, and 50s rockabilly.

Their sound is characterized by 'red-lined' production values, heavy distortion, and a relentless 4/4 tempo that rarely dips below a sprint. Culturally, they bridged the gap between the original garage revival of the 80s and the more aggressive 'scandi-rock' and garage-punk explosion of the mid-90s, evidenced by Steve Baise's later collaboration with members of Turbonegro in The Vikings. Critical consensus views them as one of the most consistent 'pure' rock and roll bands of their era, eschewing the grunge trends of the time in favor of a timeless, rowdy aesthetic. Their discography, particularly '30 Sizzling Slabs!' , remains a holy grail for crate-diggers of the Crypt Records and Sympathy for the Record Industry school of punk.
