The Jet Age of Tomorrow

Psychedelic electro-funk that feels like a VHS tape of a space launch found in a basement. Warped synths and hazy grooves for late-night cosmic drifting.

Intro

The Jet Age of Tomorrow sounds like the inside of a lava lamp if it were powered by 1970s analog synthesizers and 21st-century hip-hop sensibilities. It is a world of liquid textures, where basslines feel like they are melting and drum patterns skip with a charming, intentional clumsiness. The music occupies a strange middle ground between the dancefloor and the bedroom, offering grooves that make you want to sway but atmospheres that demand you stay seated and listen closely.

What truly distinguishes the duo is their refusal to stay grounded. While their Odd Future peers were often defined by aggression or shock value, Matt Martians and Pyramid Vritra leaned into a whimsical, intergalactic surrealism. They use synthesizers not just for melody, but as paint, splashing neon colors across skeletal beat structures. The result is a sound that feels both futuristic and deeply nostalgic, like a forgotten sci-fi soundtrack recovered from a dusty attic.

For those looking to dive in, 'The Journey to the 5th Echelon' is the essential starting point. It perfectly captures their transition from raw beat-making to fully realized cosmic soul. It is the kind of music that fits perfectly into those quiet, solitary hours when the rest of the world has gone to sleep and your thoughts start to wander toward the stars.

The Jet Age of Tomorrow was an American production duo from Atlanta, Georgia and a sub-group of hip hop collective Odd Future that consists of producer-singer Matt Martians, and producer-rapper Pyramid Vritra. According to Martians, the group's music originated from instrumentals turned down by Tyler, the Creator and Hodgy, who liked the tracks Martians sent them, but could not use them in their own music. Outside of their work with the Jet Age, Martians is a member of The Internet with Odd Future member Syd, while Vritra is a member of his own hip hop collective, NRK (Nobody Really Knows).
