The Makers

The Makers emerged from Spokane, Washington in 1991 as a central pillar of the garage rock revival. Led by the Maker brothers, the band cultivated a mythos involving matching suits and a 1965 Pontiac hearse, aligning themselves with the aesthetic of 1960s Pacific Northwest icons like The Sonics.

Their early career was defined by a prolific output on legendary indie labels like Estrus and Sympathy for the Record Industry, where they perfected a 'trash-rock' sound characterized by extreme distortion and high-energy performance. As they moved into the late 90s and early 2000s, their sound evolved significantly, incorporating elements of glam, art rock, and soul, particularly during their tenure on Sub Pop and Kill Rock Stars.
