Intro

The Producers are a seminal American power pop and new wave band originating from Atlanta, Georgia. Formed in the late 1970s, the classic lineup featured Van Temple, Kyle Henderson, Wayne Famous, and Brian Holmes.

Their sound identity is characterized by a high-gloss production aesthetic typical of the early MTV era, blending the melodic sensibilities of The Beatles with the rhythmic urgency of new wave. Their 1981 debut on Portrait Records established them as regional powerhouses and minor national stars, peaking on the Billboard charts and earning them a headline spot on MTV's New Year's Rockin' Eve. Despite critical acclaim and a reputation for a high-energy live show, commercial momentum stalled after their second album, 'You Make The Heat'. The band's history is marked by industry friction, including a shelved fourth album, 'Coelacanth', which eventually saw release in 2001. They occupy a vital space in the power pop canon, often cited alongside bands like The Cars or Cheap Trick for their ability to bridge the gap between radio-friendly pop and musicianly rock. A separate UK-based blues outfit shares the name, but the Atlanta group remains the primary cultural touchstone for the 'Producers' moniker in the context of 80s rock.
