The Prostitutes

Angular guitars and deep baritone vocals meet nocturnal synth textures. Moody, driving post-punk that feels like a lonely walk through a rain-slicked city at midnight.

Intro

The Prostitutes deliver a sound that is deeply rooted in the nocturnal side of the city. It is music built on the tension between driving, motorik rhythms and expansive, often melancholic atmospheres. The guitars provide a sharp, angular counterpoint to the lush synthesizer washes, creating a sonic landscape that feels both claustrophobic and cinematic. At the center of it all is a commanding baritone vocal that lends a sense of gravity and world-weary romanticism to every track.

What truly sets them apart is their ability to blend the raw energy of early post-punk with a sophisticated, almost pop-oriented sense of melody. While many of their peers lean into chaos, The Prostitutes maintain a controlled, polished intensity. There is a specific 'gray' quality to their music - not dull, but evocative of the misty, historic streets of Prague where they formed. It is the sound of elegant decay and the restless energy of the late-night hours.

For those new to the band, Hometown Zombies is the definitive starting point. It captures their transition from a raw indie outfit into a more atmospheric and cohesive unit. Listen for the way the bass drives the songs forward while the guitars and keys weave intricate patterns around the vocals. It is perfect for anyone who finds beauty in the shadows and prefers their rock music with a side of existential longing.

The Prostitutes are an indie rock band formed in 2004 in Prague, Czech Republic. The original members were singer Adrian T. Bell, guitarist Martin Destroyer (Martin Přikryl), keyboard player Stevie LFO (Martin Převrátil), bass-guitarist Mark Jukebox (Marek Dziuba) and drummer Luk Santiago (Lukáš Přikryl). The Prostitutes released their first album "Get Me Out of Here" in September 2006. In December 2006, Mark Jukebox left the band after long-term mutual disagreements. New bass-guitarist Šmity (Martin Chmátal) was on board immediately. Šmity is also known in the Czech Republic for his own band called Roe-Deer. In late 2009, Šmity left the band due to his time-consuming employment as a sound engineer. Adam Piaf, former frontman of the band Fake Tapes, became the new bass-guitarist.
