The Scabs are a foundational pillar of the Belgian rock scene, emerging from Diest in 1981. Originally rooted in the punk and post-punk movements, they evolved into a premier alternative rock outfit that defined the 'Belpop' sound of the late 80s and early 90s.
Led by the charismatic Guy Swinnen, the band successfully bridged the gap between underground credibility and mainstream success. Their sound identity is built on a foundation of garage rock grit, raspy blue-collar vocals, and a knack for anthemic songwriting that resonates with themes of social struggle and personal resilience. The band's career arc saw them peak with the 1991 album 'Jumping the Tracks', which produced the iconic 'Hard Times', a track that remains a permanent fixture on Belgian radio.
