Intro

The Team emerged as central figures in the Bay Area's hyphy movement during the early to mid-2000s. Comprising Clyde Carson, Mayne Mannish, and Kaz Kyzah, the group bridged the gap between the independent hustle of E-40 and the mainstream aspirations of the era.

Their sound is characterized by 'slap' - a local term for high-wattage, bass-heavy production - and a minimalist approach to synth-work that prioritized rhythm over melody. Their 2004 hit 'It's Gettin' Hot' established them as local icons, while their 2006 album 'World Premiere' garnered national Billboard attention. Clyde Carson eventually transitioned into a successful solo career, further cementing the group's legacy through hits like 'Slow Down.' Critically, they are viewed as essential architects of the hyphy sound, representing the transition from the mobb music of the 90s to the more dance-oriented, high-energy rap that would eventually influence the global 'mustard-on-the-beat' sound of the 2010s.
