The Unwinding Hours

The Unwinding Hours was formed in Glasgow in 2008 by Craig B. and Iain Cook following the dissolution of their previous outfit, Aereogramme.

While Aereogramme was known for its volatile shifts between delicate melody and abrasive noise, The Unwinding Hours represents a refinement of the duo's more melodic and atmospheric tendencies. Their sound is characterized by Craig B.' s distinctive, breathy vocal delivery and Cook's meticulous production, which often incorporates subtle electronic glitching, rich piano arrangements, and layered guitar swells. This project aligns them with the 'slowcore' and 'post-rock' movements of the late 2000s, though they maintain a strong indie-rock songwriting core. Iain Cook's subsequent success as a member of CHVRCHES has brought retrospective attention to the band's sophisticated use of synthesizers and digital textures. Critically, they are regarded as masters of the 'slow burn,' creating music that rewards patient, attentive listening. Their two studio albums, 'The Unwinding Hours' (2010) and 'Afterlives' (2012), are considered essential documents of the Scottish alternative scene, bridging the gap between traditional rock instrumentation and modern cinematic soundscapes.
