Thee Merry Widows

Thee Merry Widows emerged from the San Francisco psychobilly scene in 2002, quickly distinguishing themselves as one of the few all-female ensembles in a male-dominated genre. Led by Eva von Slut, a prominent figure in the West Coast burlesque revival, the band fused the aesthetic of mid-century Americana with the sonic aggression of horror punk.

Their sound is characterized by the prominent use of the 'slap' bass technique, hollow-body guitar tones with heavy tremolo, and lyrics that lean into noir, revenge, and macabre themes. Throughout the mid-2000s, they became staples of the international psychobilly circuit, touring extensively through Europe and playing iconic venues like CBGB. Their cultural position is defined by their intersection with the tattoo and pin-up communities, often performing at car shows and lifestyle festivals. Critically, they are respected for maintaining the traditional musicality of rockabilly while pushing the energy levels to punk standards.
