Tieum

Tieum (Matthieu Guenot) is a pivotal figure in the evolution of French hardcore and industrial techno. Emerging from the Psychiatrik sound-system in the early 1990s, he bridged the gap between the burgeoning Dutch gabber scene and the more experimental, aggressive French rave culture.

His work is characterized by extreme distortion, high BPM counts (often exceeding 180), and a heavy reliance on industrial textures. Over his career, he has founded influential labels like Psykiatrik Records, Gobble Records, and Altern-Hate, serving as a tastemaker for the 'darkcore' and 'industrial hardcore' subgenres. Critically, he is respected for maintaining a raw, underground aesthetic even as the harder styles of dance music moved toward more polished production. His influence is felt across the harder spectrum of EDM, specifically in the development of Frenchcore, where his signature 'crunchy' kick drums became a stylistic benchmark.
