Quirky, minimalist electropop that balances brittle synth melodies with a nervous, art-school energy. Perfect for rainy nights and introspective solo dancing.
Tikkle Me sounds like a beautiful machine that is just a little bit broken. Their music is built on a foundation of minimalist synth-pop, often utilizing thin, toy-like keyboard sounds and steady, unassuming drum machine pulses. The vocals are delivered with a distinctively Swedish breathiness, hovering somewhere between a lullaby and a secret whispered in a crowded room. It is music that feels both intimate and slightly detached, like watching a puppet show through a frosted window.
What truly sets them apart is the 'uncanny' quality of their melodies. While the structures are pop-oriented, there is an underlying tension and a penchant for minor-key shifts that keep the listener slightly off-balance. It shares a DNA with the 'weird-pop' internet subcultures, where the whimsical meets the existential. The production is sparse, allowing every electronic chirp and vocal inflection to carry significant emotional weight.
Start with their self-titled 2010 album to hear the purest distillation of their sound. It captures the transition from bedroom-pop intimacy to the more theatrical, visual-heavy performance style they became known for in the Swedish festival circuit. It is the ideal soundtrack for moments when you want to feel both connected to the world and safely tucked away from it.
Tikkle Me was a Swedish band from Eskilstuna which was formed in 2006 by Frida Herchenröther and Karin Taberman. The band is signed to the Skellefteå-based record label A West Side Fabrication. Herchenröther writes the songs and sings in live performances while Taberman plays the keyboard. Lately the band included more visual elements of their live performances including background dancers and background projections. Tikkle Me has played at some of the biggest Swedish festivals, including Peace & Love, Hultsfred, Arvika and Emmaboda; they've also played in Russia, Ukraine (particularly at Gogolfest) and Belarus.
