Tomb Mold

Tomb Mold emerged from Toronto as a primary catalyst for the late-2010s 'Old School Death Metal' (OSDM) revival, specifically within the 'cavernous' sub-niche. Originally a duo of Max Klebanoff and Derrick Vella, the project quickly expanded its scope beyond its initial Finnish death metal influences (Demilich, Adramelech).

Their early discography, culminating in 'Planetary Clairvoyance', established a signature sound defined by murky production, high-gain distortion, and cosmic lyrical themes. However, their 2023 release 'The Enduring Spirit' marked a significant pivot toward progressive metal and jazz-fusion, incorporating clean guitars and complex harmonic structures reminiscent of Cynic or Atheist. This evolution has placed them at the forefront of a movement that bridges the gap between primitive aggression and high-concept technicality. Critically, they are lauded for maintaining an 'organic' feel in an era of over-sanitized metal production, favoring a drum sound that feels like a physical room rather than a digital trigger.
