Formed in Dortmund in 1989, the group - consisting of Pure Doze, Der Lange, and various DJs like Stylewarz and Funky Chris - pioneered a style that rejected the commercial 'fun rap' of the era in favor of a gritty, subculture-focused aesthetic.
Their creation of the 'Silo Nation' served as a localized, parodic response to the Zulu Nation, cementing their status as regional icons. Their 1996 album 'Intercity Funk' is widely considered a masterpiece of the genre, blending hardcore boom bap with themes of graffiti and social alienation. Despite a brief hiatus in the early 2000s due to internal friction and Der Lange's focus on graffiti, their 2005 reunion with 'Dreamachine' proved their lasting relevance.
